I believe that cities grow, and that change is inevitable. However, height and density do not belong anywhere near residential neighborhoods. We should consider projects that benefit the city and that are relegated to our downtown area. The business district is very important to our city and offers over 62% of all tax revenue. We need to continue to improve this area while maintaining the South Miami charm.
REAL ESTATE TAXES
I want to work towards maintaining our current real estate tax rates while providing the same quality of service. We can do this by providing better and more efficient solutions especially in the business district. There should be no reason to increase taxes if we make effective decisions.
We have beautiful parks and green space in South Miami. We need to work to maintain & grow theses spaces as well as keep these areas safe.
The shopping and dining area of our city does not perform as well as it could. We must take steps to revitalize our commercial area with street beautification projects and working with business owners to encourage business. Additionally, the implantation of a business improvement district is very important.
PUBLIC WORKS AND POLICE
The women and men of our Police and Public Works Departments are great examples of people who work to make our city better. They need to know that the residents support their efforts on our behalf. Our workers need a suitable and healthy place to work.
Climate change is real and we must work towards sustainability by facilitating programs that would reduce waste and preserve our society and way of life.
TRAFFIC CALMING AND SAFER STREETS
We must work with the county to secure an agreement that allows for South Miami to perform our own traffic calming. Traffic is a local problem and we must do everything we can to quickly and effectively protect our residents.
